Satelittle A75-S229 shut off

\015 My lap top shuts off for no reason all by itself. Not hybernating, not screen saver but shuts totally off. If Itry to turn it back on right away, it shuts off again within a minute. If I wait until it has cooled off, it will run for an hour, maybe two before it goes off again. Is this a common phenominon with this laptop? Is it an easy fix?\015

The cooling heat sinks in the A series are very tight small and if you have dust, pets, gas heating it will collect enough dust in 3-6 months to cause the over heat problem. A external cooler really doesn't help much as the airflow is either restricted or the surface covered in enough dust it can't wick away the heat.

If you have pets or cook near your laptop or use a perfumes you may have to take it apart to clean it out. Cat hair is bad as it is fine and gets right stuck in there. Hot cooking oil vapour will float around and get sucked in and that gets the dust in the air to stick to it. Perfumes are another type of light oil and have the same effect sooner or later. There are web pages that show how to take apart and reassemble the laptop. The hardest bit is actually separating the case half's.

Before you go to that stage you can try blowing it out with compressed air. Normally you never want to use compressed air near any computer. That stuff makes me money as it forces crud into and under parts (Use a vacuum). You need a couple of toothpicks or something that is non conductive and will fit into the screen and stop the fan from turning. If the air is able to turn the fan you will end up buying a new one as the air spins its way too fast for the bearings. Turn the laptop upside down, insert the toothpicks into all fans, then blow the compressed air in from the exit. You are trying to blow the stuff off and out the way it came not stick it harder in. You will probably see a good puff of dust when you first aim the air into each exit. And you will be surprised just how little dust it takes to overheat these. Put it this way if you ever slapped the dust off of your pants that will be about 10x more than what ti takes to over heat these. Once you have given each exit a good couple squirts of air, take the toothpicks outs, flip it over and turn it on. Now if you feel the exit air it will no longer be hot but just warm even after several hours of hard use. You just saved yourself $50 or more.

This is a oh-so-common problem for the Satelite A70/75 and it usually is caused by one of two things. If you google "Toshiba Satelite heatsink overheating" and/or "Toshiba Satelite DC plug" you will get a very extensive list of options to repair the problem.
\015\012This should take care of the problem and if it doesn't please let me know - it will mean I have something new to look forward to!
