Replacing ram problem

\015 I only had a single stick of 256MB of RAM so I bought 2 sticks of 512MB. I had no problem replacing the RAM in the slot where the 256 was, but on the other side, i can't get the slot to pop up like the side that had the stick of 256. What can I do? Thanks for your help.\015

Hi....

Assuming you have tried to install the piece you can't get in first (often there are space problems) and after you are sure it's aligned correctly (usually if you put one end into the slot on the clip that holds it in place - if a typical motherboard - and then align it (prior to pressing down) you should be able to get it in by gradually increasing downward pressure (make sure you are pressing straight down and applying equal pressure). The maximum amount of pressure you will have to judge but it should not leave ridges on your fingertips. IOf you have something that weighs 10 lbs and it's on a desktop pushing it with a thumb will give you roughly the maximum amount of pressure to apply.

By the way...with all ram I buy I use memtest32 (available free on the internet...just do a search) to test the ram. This saves a lot of frustration downstream with problems caused by defective ram (corrupted software)....and yes, I can hear you saying but "it's new". I won't go into the detail as to why there is significant bad ram out there but trust me...there is. Hope this helps...Tango
