Having problems with your Motorola PC Desktops ?
My internet modem SB5101 keeps cutting out. In a days time it goes from normal (all green lights steady) to not
normal with one or more lights blinking, and I can't connect to the internet. What I want to know, how do I know if my modem is defective?

Your intermittent connectivity while using a Motorola SURFboard SB5101 might be related to how said modem is connected to your computer:

Other possibilities include:
- lease expiration of the assigned IP add from the DHCP. You could try assigning static IP add; \015\012
- erring or inadvertently pressed stand-by button that provides hassle-free security by disengaging from the PC without disconnecting from the cable network.
Should none of the above address your issue, then either a firmware update or a unit replacement would have to be considered. Other consideration would be how familiar you are with networking. With this mind, you may have to reference closely the step by step as detailed in the manual or seek the services of a qualified professional.

Also most of the times the ISP would not agree that there is an issue at there end, you will have to call them a few times to make them agree on the same.
Also i am sure that you must have tried powercycle on the modem, IF NOT than you just have to turn it off for about 20 minutes and than turn it back ON.
Now if you really think that it is the modem, you may do a hard reset on the modem.
To Reset you need to find the reset button on the modem(Usually a pin hole button at the back of the modem, you need to press and hole it for 10 seconds).
Note: If you do a hard reset, if there are any settings saved on your modem for the ISP, they will be lost and you might have to call the ISP for guiding you to set u the internet again(10% chance).
I am sure that this would help. If you had got the modem as well from the ISP , than keep bugging them and they will replace it if required...

My HP Pavilion dv9005us has two issues which I cannot resolve.
