\015 After 6 years with no problems, my IBM Thinkpad R40 2897 with Windows XPP started to fail about a month ago. It first happened when I was playing music in Windows Media Player (trusted files I had often played before) and the screen started to flicker with vertical lines. Physically moving the screen back and forth alternately made this worse or better, until it completely freaked out with lots of vertical lines and then black. More recently, the vertical (and sometimes horizontal) lines don't show up as much. Instead, what usually happens is that I can boot up and work for a few minutes, during which time the display is as good as ever, but eventually there is some intermittent "shivering" until either (1) everything freezes or (2) the display gets more and more fuzzy/static-y until it just goes nuts, then black. If I shut down and reboot right away, it goes bad right away. It is still sensitive to my physically moving the screen, which generally makes the screen freak out and then freeze up faster. Any ideas?\015
you've really been using this laptop for a long time (6 years).
From the information you provided, I discovered that the fault is most likely from the flex the connects from the screen to the mother board.
I think the flex is worn out that's why the screen misbehaves.
To confirm this, test your laptop with a monitor and see if it will do the same.
If it does the same then the problem should be from the mother board.
But from what I perceive, I don't think this is a fault that you can fix yourself. I would advice you give it to a technician, so that the laptop would be loosed and whatsoever the problem is will be ascertained and a solution would be proffered.
You have really been using the laptop for long, so I think its high time you took it for servicing.
I wish you the best of luck.
Your graphic driver is corrupted so it freezes .
For that when you power up the computer press F8 key then enter in safe mode.
uninstall graphic driver from copntrol panel-> add remove programs and device manager.
For get device manager right click on my computer icon then click on property then hardware ->device manager uninstall display adapter.
Then restart computer in normal mode then reinstall graphic driver.
Alao scan your computer with updated antivirus.
click here and download graphic driver then install.
Also in safe mode go to start menu ->run
Type in run "chkdsk /r" then press enter then press "y" then restart computer then it fix errors on harddisk.
Let me know if you need further assistance.
Thanks for using fixya.

For the past week, when my Sceptre LCD monitor goes to sleep after inactivity, it won't restart immediately. The blue LED blinks every second or so; eventually, the screen begins to flash the display, and then a few minutes after that, will finally turn on. Sometimes the whole process takes five minutes, sometimes an hour. How can I fix this problem? (I can't find the documentation to say exactly what model this is; if that's important, I can look again.)
