IBM ThinkPad 380Z AV Hook up To Tv

\015 Hi there, My ThinkPad 380Z I have I turned into a desktop working way, and sits in my room on the Tv stand. And I keep the lid closed and use a Wireless Mouse and Keyboard. The SUN SPARCstation 5 I didn't have luck finding a USB Port nor the right keyboard for it. And the VGA Port I orderd off ebay never came in when I won on Aug 25 And couldn't find a SCIS to EIDE Adapter for the Hard Drive. So I just put it in the closet. So the ThinkPad 380Z took its place Since it has a USB and all of todays ports. I'm wanting to hook up this AV/VGA Cable I got for the SUN. It is a cable that has the one end "VGA" and the other end the Yellow Video Port and the Purple S Video and thats all the cable is. I have a SANYO 27" Tv in my Room, No Plasma nor LCD just Basic and Want to hook the 380Z to it. The Tv don't have a S Video or AV Ports but has the holes for the AV, 3 rows of AVs but never installed I guess. So I have a cable the plugs to it and comes from the VCR witch the VCR has the AV Ports on it. I plug the 380Z to it and put on TV Video 1 and 2 and No Video. I even tryed my T40 and no luck with it. The Tv in the Living Room works but not well. Its a SANYO Flat Screen Basic Tv too and It does show the video of my T40 but there just lines going up and down and then just one thin line. and thats AV plugs, pluged directly to back of that Tv. So I don't know how to work it. And I've seen it done before on these Tvs such as Presentations where the Laptop was hooked to the Tv. If I remember it was a Toshiba Flat Screen Tv and they were using a Fujitsu LifeBook Laptop.\015

From what I have been reading, the video card in the computer itself MUST support TV out. You can't just use a TV like a computer monitor...it won't work. Check the ads on eBay for those adapter cables and they will say: Check to make sure your video card supports TV out. Go back to eBay and search in the same general area for a computer video to TV adapter or converter box. DO NOT get it confused with the converter box for HDTV. They are about $25-$35 and you will still need the cable adapter you already have, plus another set of just the AV cables. Good luck. Please rate this if it was helpful.
\015\012\011\011\011\011\011\011pretty well said it. This model of ibm laptop does not natively support tv out mode. To get rca-video out, or svid out...you need either a different laptop, a pcmcia video card with svid out, or a TV Superscan 2(VGA to NTSC converter).

You could also go with a Sabrent VGA to TV converter. This will work where MOST usb devices will fail, because it only draws power from the usb port(could be powered from a hub, or usb wall charger also).

Don't bother with normal usb video cards.. as they REQUIRE usb2.0... and you're lucky you even HAVE a usb 1.1 port.
