Answers :

I believe you power supply is bad and needs changing,,
\015\012however try this first before changing the power supply
\015\012unplug your system.
\015\012
\015\0121.) Open up the computer
\015\0122.) remove the memory
\015\0123.) Remove the mainboard battery 4e78012.jpg\015\012see the silver pin to the right> pull that ayaw from the battery and it will popout
\015\012
\015\0124.) hit the power button 5 times
\015\0125.) put your memory and battery back in
\015\0126.) put your powercable back in and try booting it..
\015\012
\015\012IF THAT FAILS,, REPLACE YOUR POWER SUPPLY.
I have the same problem since two days ago. I unplugged the power, waited for a while, and then plugged it again. Luckily it worked. The next day it worked all right. Tonight I had the problem again. I unplugged the power, wait, and plugged in the power again. Thank God, it is working on. Somebody suggested that it might be the problem with the motherboard. Anyway, I will check the battery and the power supply first.
By the way, anyone has contacted Gateway about this problem?

I have an ACER AM5640 and it does not start. The lights on front blink, the CD/DVD drive spins, the cooling fans run, but it does not boot. I created a LINUX bootable CD and tried starting from that, but nothing happened. I am wondering if the hard drive has totally stopped or the BIOS is fried. Someone told me that I can update the BIOS by using a USB memory stick, but I do not know how. Any ideas?
