Having problems with your E-Machines T3092 PC Desktop ?

When I turn it on, I only get a screen saying that Windows did not start successfully; a recent hardware or software change might have caused this. It won't start in any mode. Yesterday I defraged the disc. We have a Restore DVD. It may be the hard drive has crashed??? I'm concerned we'll lose our latest files not backed up. Last time, I think the restore disk saved them for us though.... Do you know?

It sounds as if the Windows operating system has become corrupted.
\015\012If the dtata is really important, don't try to fix it at all yet.

\015\012A restore disk usually will wipe out a harddisk completely and set it to the same condition as the day it was built. DO NOT use the restore disk on that harddrive if you want to recover the data.

\015\012I would buy a new harddrive (they are relatively inexpensive compared to losing your data) and install it. Then I would use the Restore disk on it to provide a fully functional PC.

\015\012Then I would put the old harddisk in an external drive enclosure and connect it to the PC via USB cable and see if you can copy your data to the new harddisk.

\015\012If that isn't successful, you may want to consider using Seagate's "do it yourself" recovery software...

If you defragged it then it must have started. I would advise you to save all files you do not want to loose if you can get it started. Now ask yourself this question. What hardware or software changes have you made recently? Have you installed any hardware or downloaded any software at all? If so, that is your problem. Remove whatever you installed if possible, Try starting in Safe Mode.
