- If you have another computer, try your monitor there. If it's also possible, try another monitor on your computer. \012
- If the computer works on another monitor then check the cable for any dents or damage. If isolation can't be done, no extra monitor/computer, then just continue.
- Check the lights on your computer when you turn it. The power light, keyboard lights and fans should be all working. \012
- Check for any beeps \012
- If the computer seems to have life but giving no display, proceed with troubleshooting the video card. \012
- If you're not comfortable opening up computer, I advise you to contact a local technician. \012
- Check if you have a built-in video card by looking at the orientation of you monitor cable at the back of the tower. If it's vertical, you have a built-in, if it's horizontal, you have an expansion video card.
- If you have expansion video card, proceed with the next step, otherwise contact a local tech or you computer's manufacturer. \012
- Get your computer's manual and follow the instructions on how to open it. If it's not available, then contact a local tech or try to figure it out on your own. Make sure that the computer is unplug, when you open the tower and ground yourself properly (use an anti-static wrist strap).
- Expansion video card is usually connected to a brown connector on the motherboard (the big circuit board inside your computer) if it's not, refer to your manual if where it is located. \012
- Disconnect the monitor cable then unscrew the video card from the computer case. Remove it, clean the contacts with a clean cloth then put it back. Make sure that is properly seated in the slot. \012
- Reconnect everything then try to turn it on. \012
