\015 This past summer our emachine would shut down by itself. I took it to the store and they indicated that they couldn't get the problem to repeat, but that the computer may get hot and shut down by itself and that an external fan may help. The computer would still shut down periodically on its own. I just got my T6216 back from the shop. It was in a reboot loop. The Techs removed Norton Internet Security and the Webroot Spy Software because they sometimes cause problems together and installed AntiVir Personal Edition and AVG Spyware. This morning, I turned on the computer and left the room while the virus protection software updated. 30 minutes later I came back and the computer was in sleep mode. When I moved the mouse to start it up again, the computer shut down. Are all of these problems related? Should I have a new fan or powersupply installed? Thanks\015
\015\012I had a customer come in to the shop with their eMachine with the same problem as you. These are the steps I took to solve the problem;
\015\0121) Clean out the computer with compressed air. Including the power supply.
\015\0122) I booted into Safe Mode w/ Network and downloaded
\015\012 (a) ccleaner, http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/
\015\012 (b) Jkdefrag, http://www.kessels.com/Jkdefrag/
\015\012 (c) Spybot S&D, http://www.download.com/Spybot-Search-Destroy/3000-8022_4-10122137.html?tag=pop.software&cdlPid=10861988
\015\012 (d) AVG, http://www.download.com/AVG-Anti-Virus-Free-Edition/3000-2239_4-10320142.html?tag=pop.software&cdlPid=10861654
\015\012 All of these are free programs and they work very well.
\015\0123) At the same time as you downloan, check the System Properties to make sure all of the ram and other components are being used. You can find this at "Start", "Control Panel", "System", "General Tab".
\015\012 4) I uninstalled Nortn (everthing)
\015\012 5) Load the Spybot S&D and run it.
\015\012At this point I found the problem, it was a Trojen.
\015\012 6) Load AVG & ccleaner and run them.
\015\012Restart the computer and away you go.
\015\012Please let me know if this works. [email protected]
\015\012Before I start replacing hardware, I would boot to safemode, and let it run that way to see of the problem repeats. In Safemode, a lot of drivers and software that may be causing the problem won't start up.
\015\012As soon as your start your machine, tap the F8 key about twice a second. This should bring up a screen with several options. Select Safemode. You will get some warning, so just click yes on those. Your screen will look really strange, since your video drivers won't install. Let it run like that for a few hours. BTW, you won't have internet.
\015\012If that still reboots, or shuts down, chance are good it a hardware issue. Might be your Heatsink on the cpu is too dirty to cool, but the techs you took it to should have cleaned that.
\015\012Get back with us, and post how that works please.
\015\012 You can also right click on My Computer>Manage>Event Viewer and look thru the different catagories. Look for issues with red marks on them. To read them, just click on them. This may give you idea what is failing.
\015\012A issues that is random is hard to troubleshoot.
