Having problems with your E-Machines (BFB0505HA) Cooling Fan, Laptop Heatsink, Heatsink With Fan ?

Emachine heating issues

\015 I have an emachine T5230. It will power up but after only a few minutes it shuts down. I thought the power supply was going bad so i have replaced that but it still shuts down. The heat sink on the cpu has a fan that only runs right at start up. Could this be the problem? \015\012Any suggestions or is this something I need to take to the pros?\015\012\015\012(I'm a poor undergrad)\015

Hi rebecca_fran,
\015\012 Well the system is shutting down for a reason but before you run off & buy a new CPU fan I want you to try something.
\015\012Unplug the power cord from the PC. Open your case & ground your self by simply touching any bare metal. (The bottom of the case will do).
\015\012Please remove the memory currently in your system. If you have never done this before please check within the manual for your eMachine. (There should be a section on how to install memory).
\015\012You can also click on this uTube link, it’s a bit long but you can skip through the video.
\015\012If you have some canned air blow out the memory slots.
\015\012(Do not place your fingers on the memory contacts at any time).
\015\012Re-seat the memory, firmly but gently. Leave the case opened & plug in the power cord. Turn on the PC. See if the fan runs & the system doe’s not shut down. If it still does replace the CPU fan.
\015\012Your PC uses an AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ / 2.3 GHz CPU.
\015\012Here is a replacement AMD CPU fan & assembly.
\015\012The CPU will come with thermal tap on its underside. (No need to buy thermal grease).
\015\012(Make sure you remove the old thermal grease from the top of the CPU). Use a clean rag with a little alcohol on it. (Not dripping). Allow time for drying. Do not scratch the CPU surface.
\015\012Good luck rebecca_fran!
