\015 My Matshita dvd ram uj 857s says code 10. I have searched for a solution and everyone says to type in "regeit" in my search and continue from there but I have nothing called "regeit". I need another solution. I have a cd of pictures from our holiday and I want to view them. can anyone please help!\015

Answers :

I certainly do not know "regeit"! ... sounds more like "REGEDIT" which is the registry editor!\015\012In any case, CODE 10 is caused by your DVD device no longer being recognized! If you use iTunes, then this is a very likely 'guilty party' (Uninstall it and re-install a newer version).\015\012As a general cure: use Control Panel/Device Manager and DELETE the entry for your DVD/CD device and reboot: Windows will then re-install the driver for your DVD/CD device and the error should be gone.\015\012Let me know how you go!
It's not "regeit" but "regedit".

Drives Disappear After You Install ITunes or Norton Ghost** If after installing ITunes or Norton Ghost, you get Device Manager error code, try locating the Audio File System (AFS) driver from Oak Technologies at C:\\Windows\\System32\\Drivers\\afs.sys or doing a search for it. Rename it afs.sys.txt and reboot. This driver is incompatible with the driver found in iTunes and Norton Ghost. The driver from these two companies is the same and made by a third company called Gear Software. After renaming the afs.sys driver file you will lose access to the CD burning feature of of the following: HP Memories Disc Creator, Liquid Audio Portal Player, Oak Technology SimpliCD, or Broderbund's Print Shop version 20. If you still wish to use the burning feature in any of that software, upgrade it to a Vista versions. For more information, see the article here - http://www.gearsoftware.com/wiki/index.php?title=CD/DVD_drives_disappear_after_installing_iTunes.

Description of Code 10-related errors that Device Manager generates in Windows-based computers
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943104/

Please do all the below even if you have done some before as it is often the total process which solves the issue.

Try this - Control Panel - Device Manager - CD/DVD - double click the device - Driver's Tab - click
Update Drivers (this will likely do nothing) - then RIGHT CLICK the drive - UNINSTALL - REBOOT
this will refresh the default driver stack.

Then work your way through these - remember the drive could be bad, could have a loose cable or
slight corrosion on the contacts (usually for a laptop) and other issues.

Another possibility is that the cables are loose. Remove ALL power, then check cables in both
ends. Remove and replace, do not just snug. For laptops you can often clean the power and
data contacts with a pencil eraser.

Some DVD drives do not use the Windows default drivers so check with the System maker and
device maker to see if there is firmware or drivers for you drive if needed.
