Having problems with your Dell OptiPlex GX270 PC Desktop ?

Ticking sound My pc won't boot. Black screen. I have removed the video card, ram and disconnected ide hdd, cdrom and floppy and it's still the same. Sounds like it's coming from onboard speaker.

Answers :

Does the noise sound like this? Click Shhhhhp Click Shhhhp repeating in a ryhthmic fashion? If it does and you have an IBM/Hitatchi Deskstar hard drive then you have what is known as the "click of death" meaning that the hard drive has bit the dust. I have never been able to recover from this on those drives.
\015\012If this is not it then look at this.
\015\012With no video output and being that the Optiplex GX270 was in the run of "bad capacitor" mobos you may have blown capacitors on your motherboard. Open the case and look at all of the capacitors that have a "+" or "X" on them. They should be perfectly flat and not bulged at the top or leaking any stuff. DELL, along with other PC manufacturers got bit by a cheap company that sold cheap capacitors that were faultily manufactured. If any of them are bad then your computer will not work right.
U must tell me that the which type of sound is this. eg.- 1beep, 2beep, 3beep, 1long 1short or 1 long.
\015\012and ur motherboard and processor's name.................

My Dell Dimension E510 is making a "whirring" noise. It whirls loudly when I turn it on, like something inside is struggling to get up to speed. The computer takes more time than usual to become operable and open programs. Then with the computer on, the "whirring" comes and goes, it is more quite, but more uneven. Sounds like it's going fast sometimes, then speeds up and back and forth. I've opened the computer and cleaned the dust out of it. That didn't help. HELP. VHS

So what could make "whirring" sounds in a computer? Motors. What has motors? Fans, Hard Disc Drives, Floppy Drives and CD/DVD ROM Drives. I can't think of anything else. It doesn't sound like a CD/DVD/Floppy drive because you would only hear the nois ... Dell Dimension E510 PC Desktop
