Having problems with your Dell Latitude X1 Notebook ?

\015 I have been using the internet at home via my Wireless connection for a couple of years no problem. I recently took my laptop to work and was working via our Wireless connection, again no problems.\015\012\015\012When I took the laptop home I could not reconnect to my Wireless connection. I just plugged an ethernet cable from my laptop and into my router and it was all good again.\015\012\015\012I thought it was maybe to do with the TCP/IP section or the MAC address but I just keep getting the limited or no connection dialogue when I unpug the ethernet and use Wireless.\015\012\015\012The strange thing is I can browse some sites but mail etc does not work?\015\012\015\012Answers on a postcard\015\012\015\012Many Thanks\015

To kind of "clarify" what dbellehumeur wrote (because I agree that might fix the problem), well... try this first:

  1. Select all these steps and paste them into Notepad (and/or print them out or something),\015\012because you'll need to close your browser and also disconnect your internet\015\012cable from your laptop

  2. Close your browser

  3. Disconnect your LAN cable
    4. \015\012
  4. Click 'Start'
    5. \015\012
  5. Click 'Settings'
    6. \015\012
  6. Click 'Control Panel'

  7. Double-click 'Internet options'

  8. Click the 'Connections' tab at the top

  9. Towards the bottom, click the button labeled 'LAN Settings'

  10. Make sure that 'Automatically detect settings' is checked, and everything else is unchecked.

  20. Give it a minute to see if the "Limited connectivity" thing changes to how it should be. If it connects, great! (Glad I could help.) If not (usually my luck), see the next step.

  21. Go back to the Control Panel window and open 'Network settings' (I think that's what it's labeled...)

  22. Right-click the icon that represents you wireless connection (should be pretty obvious)

\015\012Sometimes when dealing with IP addresses, DNS, etc... you system does not update automatically. in your case, i think you are having a problem of renewing IP address and gateway... open Run CMD.
\015\012type ipconfig /release.
\015\012this command shall release all automatic IP. then you do ipconfig /renew. this shall renew the ip address.
