\015 DELL LATITUDE D600 When pressing the power button the caps light blink several times but won't boot up. Previously it was noted that holding down F7 and F8 with power button should resolve this problem, which it did for me, but i would like a more permanent fix. Can replacing the bios chip help? Does soldering the bios joints help, for how long? what is the bios joined to? How should this be carried out? any more help/advice welcomed! thanks\015
Thank you for using FixYa for your problem
\015\012Not sure if it's a sure fix or not, but it worked for me.
I have a Dell Latitude c640 and when powering up, the caps LED would blink roughly 10 times, things would spin up, but after the 10 or so blinks, it would power down without anything having been displayed. This happened just after I had the laptop going on batteries, and it went into hibernate mode automatically after the batteries got low. When I plugged back up to a power supply and turned on, the computer started to exhibit this problem.
All I did was removed the bottom panel, removed both memory modules, put the memory modules back in the slot, rocked them at least 7 times before locking them back in to place to ensure a good seat, and completly seated them (clicks into place), closed up the panel, and powered up.
After doing this, the system booted up normally.
Just as a bynote , Faulty RAM, damaged motherboard affecting the RAM (ie cracked RAM slot where it was maybe forced in with a bit too much pressure) and lastly cooking the chip although this is a lot more rare.
Easiest way to check is get another laptop and swap YOUR RAM INTO IT if it affects that laptop then RAM, riskier is to switch ITS RAM into yours, still does it - generally MoBo.
there are also other problems that cause these errors, but in my experience these are the most common\015\012
Good luck! \015\012
