Dell Latitude C600 220 MHZ, 256 MB RAM, 20G HD, How to speed up

\015 Dell Latitude C600 220 MHZ, 256 MB RAM, 20G HD, Win. XP Professional version 2002, service pack 3. Is there any way to speed it up a little with settings and configurations or do I need new hardware and if so what?\015

Answers :

Hello.

Here are a few suggestions to speed up your Latitude:

1. Add additional memory. Your Latitude can hold a maximum of 512 MB, with 2 module of 256 MB. If you currently have 1 module of 256 MB, you simply add another module of 256 MB. It needs to be the same speed as the other module of PC100. If you have 2 (128 MB) modules, you will either need to replace both or keep one and increase memory to 384 (128 + 256) MB. I've seen 256 MB modules for around $50.

2. Run Disk Cleanup then run Defrag. Both are free programs that come with Windows XP. Go to Start - Programs - Accessories - System Tools to find these programs.

3. Run free anti-spyware and anti-malware programs to see if spyware and malware are slowing your system. Found: spybot.com and malwarebytes.com

Please note to take safety precautions before working inside your computer. Disconnect all cables and remove the main battery before you service the computer.\015\012\015\012\015\012\015\012
Hope this helps.

How do i change the memory bus speed on my dell optiplex 170l? The CPU is an Intel Celeron 2.4GHz. The mother board processor speed is 400MHz and the Bios indicates a memory bus speed of 266MHz and does not seem to have an adjustable option. Mixing Memory Hi, my machine will not recognize two different memory speeds. I have two older DDR2 500 MB sticks that run at 533 MHz and one newer DDR2 1 GB stick that runs at 667 MHz. The two 533 MHz 500 M sticks work OK together, and the 667 MHz 1 G stick runs OK by itself. However, if you fit the 667 1GB stick and a 533 500 MB stick to give 1.5 GB memory, the PC shows the speed as that of the lowest stick (as expected) but only shows 1 GB memory installed.
