New Dell battery, new AC adapter(not Dell). Won't charge battery

\015 It seems Dell has a system intercept to keep you from using any adapter but theirs (at twice the price). Is there anyway around this as the battery won't charge and I must use the system on AC only with battery removed.Need answer ASAP\015

Answers :

Dell uses a proprietary SMBus protocol over the center pin to communicate the type and power capability of the attached adapter. The laptop uses this information to determine if it can charge the battery without browning out the motherboard. If you use a knock-off power supply that doesn't communicate properly (or at all) over SMBus, then the computer will complain and won't charge the battery. Sorry, Dell has us all right where they want us. Find a used actual Dell adapter on eBay for $20 if you can.
