\015 My Inspiron 530 has been operating normally. I shut it off when I last used it a few days ago.\015\012\015\012This morning, the computer boots up but the monitor stays black. It is as if there is no power to the monitor, however all of the plugs seem intact.\015\012\015\012There is a little icon on the keyboard which might be related to this. It is illuminated in green. It looks like a little lock with the number 9 inside. What is this and does it have something to do with the monitor not coming up ?\015

Hi,

Your keyboard can't know anything about the monitor, unless it was hooked in through a USB port on the monitor and there is some proprietary design that shows monitor status on it (but I doubt it). How old is the monitor? It is a CRT or LCD type?

Your monitor should have a small LED to indicate it has power. If that is not lit up then, your monitor has a power issue. Try unplugging it, wait a minute, and then plug it back in again. If there is still no change, then your monitor power supply is likely blown.

If your monitor LED light does come on, double check your connections to the computer. Disconnect and then reconnect the monitor and try starting your computer again.
The icon you are seeing is the Num Lock indicator. What that means is the computer has probably booted up successfully.

If you have another computer or laptop, hook up your monitor to the other computer to see if you get a display.

If no other computer to try with, try unplugging the monitor and with the power unplugged, press the power button for about 15 seconds.

Reconnect power and make sure the monitor powers on, then connect it to your PC.
