Having problems with your Compaq Evo D510 Minitower (Open Box) (OB4700432011) PC Desktop ?

Compaq EVO 510 2.4GZ Motherboard Question

\015 So I bought this motherboard and figured out where all the Power Switches and LED jumpers go to power the thing up. I am building a PC and This board will not display any onboard Video to any monitor I connect it to. I've got 2 333mgz RAM chips in there. I've also tried throwing in a PCI card and still nothing.. I cannot even get into the BIOS to look at anthing. The Power Supply is providing power as I can see the three lights and it does start with the power switch I connected. Am I missing something, are there any other jumper settings just to get the video to display? I also have a generic 4 pin speaker I was tried to put somewhere but there does not seem to be any place to put it. Any Help would be apprecieated.\015

Answers :

Motherboard was tested before shipping? Good.
Want you to know I wasn't trying to be a smart aleck with my statement.

I was trying to find out if the motherboard was removed from a computer, and the state of the motherboard was not known.

When a problem is stated on here, you never know the expertise of the person you're dealing with, most of the time.

I see I am dealing with someone who has intelligence, and knows their way around a computer. Good!

About Anti-Static Guidelines;
Your body carries Static electricity. Static will fry out computer hardware components. You may not even see it, or feel it.

It is suggested to work on a table, and if the table is sitting on a carpeted floor, to refrain from swinging your feet back, and forth.

After unplugging the computer from power, and opening the computer case, Touch the metal frame.

This will relieve Static from your body. If you get up for any reason, leave, then return, Touch the metal frame again.
Touch the metal frame before you handle any computer hardware parts, and especially the Processor.

(Refrain from touching the Processor's pins on bottom. Handle the Processor by the case. Refrain from touching the gold plated contact pins, on the bottom of a ram stick. Anywhere else is fine. The body of the ram stick is coated with a see-through plastic)

Minimal wires connected?
1) Meaning only the Power On wires to the Front Panel header, on the motherboard? Excellent.

2) 20/24-pin ATX Power cable to motherboard? Excellent.

3) 4-pin ATX power cable to motherboard? Excellent.
(The 4-pin ATX square shaped connector. This power cable is the power for a Pentium 4 processor. Must be hooked up)

No harddrive power cable, nor interface cable attached
No CD/DVD drive/s power cable, nor interface cable attached.
No USB front panel cables attached.

Computer case fans, and processor fan hooked to power? Okay.

What Wattage does you Pentium 4 use?
Only thing that Compaq Support lists, is that one of the processor options is an Intel Pentium 4 processor, that operates at a maximum frequency rate of 2.4GigaHertz.

Doesn't state what architecture, nor Core, the processor is based upon.
It IS a Pentium 4, that uses a Socket 478 processor socket.

I know this, because a Pentium 4 that operates at 2.4GHz, only uses a Socket 478.

There were Five different models, of the Pentium 4 2.4GHz processor made.
Three of them were brought out in 2002, the year your computer came out.
They use the Northwood Core, and the 130NanoMeter architecture. (130nm)

All three used a maximum of 59.8 Watts

How much does the motherboard use, is the question about asking how much Onboard, (Integrated), graphics uses for power.
Around 50 Watts.
Add Ram Memory, about 80 Watts.
Total without harddrive about 140 Watts.

Ram Memory installed, and Processor. You should get the BIOS POST screen. You may have to restart the computer up to 4 times.

If you are using a harddrive from another computer, this won't work.
The Windows operating system, has already logged the hardware from the computer it was previously installed in.

The DDR Sdram ram memory at 333MHz, has to be,
1) Non-ECC
2) Unbuffered
3) 2.5 Volt
4) Cas Latency of 2.5, or 3. (CL 2.5, or CL3. Ram Timings)

Maximum Amount for EACH ram slot is 1GB
Maximum TOTAL Amount is 2GB for the computer.
Always install the largest ram amount in Slot 1.
(DIMM 1 on motherboard)

The Processor 'Sees' Slot 1 first.

You are absolutely sure those power supply's are good?
Do you have any bad Electrolytic Capacitors on the motherboard?
Especially the one's that surround the Processor?

Capacitors that are close to the Processor are Voltage Regulators for the Processor.
The Processor must have a Clean, Steady, supply of Voltage.
A Processor has a VERY narrow tolerance range.
