Having problems with your Acer PC Laptops ?

I have an acer aspire 5517 I am getting a message that it is exiting pex-mof check cable connection no bootable device insert disk. I do not have a disk. What can I do?

Answers :

Laptops get moved around a lot and often a cable or chip can come adrift. If it says it can't find a bootable device that suggests your hard-drive cable has come loose or even failed.

If it's still under warranty take it back to the store, if not then the first thing is to unplug from the mains (for safety) then take the plate off the base of the laptop and check everything is pushed home correctly. Nine times out of ten just pushing everything home cures the problem. If not then you need to borrow a system disk so you can get access to run diagnostics, check bios etc.

If all this is beyond you then there are plenty of laptop repair companies advertising fixed price repairs on the web.
Something has happened and the motherboard BIOS can't start WIndows. The BIOS is set to try booting from CD first, then the hard drive, and finally over a network. The funny message you're getting means it couldn't find a network connection. The last thing it asks for is a disk to try booting from.

This might be due to a hard drive failure, the drive connection to the motherboard may have become loose, the motherboard may no longer be able to access the drive, or a virus or other malware might have damaged the drive's boot block data.

You'll need to have the computer checked to determine if the hardware is at fault. Once the drive access trouble is solved, you may need to reinstall the original factory software with whatever recovery media was supplied.
