With a loud squeal, it is either your hard drive eating itself up or a fan trying to spin. If it sounds like a pretty songbird caught in a blender, it's probably your hard drive. If it sounds like your younger brother trying to make the most annoyin ... Sony VAIO VGN-FZ240E/B Laptop

I have a Lenovo A61 Thinkcentre that is about one year old. I am now hearing a fairly loud noise that comes and goes. When the system starts, the noise appears and lasts 10 - 20 minutes, then disappears. It sounds like there is a very large mosquito inside the tower. I opened the case and confirmed that the noise is not from either of the two fans, and does not seem to be from the hard drive. It does seem to be from the sound card which has some heat sinks under the card, but no visible movi

Ok it still sounds like an fan. look for fans, one in power supply, one on cpu, one in case(frount or back), one on video card. before you start from cold unplug the fans that you can. and stop the one in power supply. then if there is no nosie you h ... My Dell Dimension E510 is making a "whirring" noise. It whirls loudly when I turn it on, like something inside is struggling to get up to speed. The computer takes more time than usual to become operable and open programs. Then with the computer on, the "whirring" comes and goes, it is more quite, but more uneven. Sounds like it's going fast sometimes, then speeds up and back and forth. I've opened the computer and cleaned the dust out of it. That didn't help. HELP. VHS

So what could make "whirring" sounds in a computer? Motors. What has motors? Fans, Hard Disc Drives, Floppy Drives and CD/DVD ROM Drives. I can't think of anything else. It doesn't sound like a CD/DVD/Floppy drive because you would only hear the nois ... Dell Dimension E510 PC Desktop
