\015 My computer was editing and i noticed it was getting really hot the last few weeks but i thought it was normal and the next things it crashed with lines of numbers down the screen, then i turned it off and tried turning it back on again. It wouldn't come back on and it didn't make any noise (no fan noise or anything). I taken it apart and cleaned a huge piece of dust from the heatsink and there is no way the fan could cool it down with that there. So I am guessing that i burned out the processor or the motherboard. I am wondering whether you know what is wrong with it?\015
\015\012A replace CPU may fix the laptop provided no other damage was done to the motherboard.
Your fan speeds up and slows down in response to temperature inside the computer. More so the CPU.
I would suggest getting a can of compressed air made for computers
take it outside, take of the side and blow all the gunk out of there, Really go to town around the fan (you might want to wear eye protection)
\015\012While you are in there just check that the CPU cooler itself is not loose
If it is it will have to be re-seated.
If it needs re-seating don't just take it off and put it back on as that might make things worse with your temperature problem the have to be cleaned and new thermal grease put on
\015\012I think this may be your problem before you buy a new CPU make sure you check the cooler assembly and make sure you use new thermal grease ($2-5)
\015\012DON'T remove the CPU just the fan/cooler assembly.
\015\012You must clean both the surfaces without scraping anything off. Use isopropynol alcohol and cotton bud sticks until both surfaces are clean, you can use your finger nail to scrape harder residue if you wish but nothing else.
\015\012DON'T pour the alcohol over the CPU
\015\012Now apply some new thermal grease (most computer shops have it)
Be careful about how much you put on
Here are some basic instructions
Once you have re-assembled your cooler and re-connected it check everything is OK and power up the computer.
If everything went to plan you should now be back in business.

My Dell Dimension E510 is making a "whirring" noise. It whirls loudly when I turn it on, like something inside is struggling to get up to speed. The computer takes more time than usual to become operable and open programs. Then with the computer on, the "whirring" comes and goes, it is more quite, but more uneven. Sounds like it's going fast sometimes, then speeds up and back and forth. I've opened the computer and cleaned the dust out of it. That didn't help. HELP. VHS
So what could make "whirring" sounds in a computer? Motors. What has motors? Fans, Hard Disc Drives, Floppy Drives and CD/DVD ROM Drives. I can't think of anything else. It doesn't sound like a CD/DVD/Floppy drive because you would only hear the nois ... Dell Dimension E510 PC Desktop
