To my knowledge, there could be several reasons for your concern:
\015\012

the basic information (*.inf) file to recognize and make use of the Western Digital My Book is corrupted;
the actual hard drive inside the My Book is defective or has lost its partition/formatting;
the PC's USB port can not recognize the USB interface of the WD;
a recent update of your OS has disabled some of the related functions of the USB interface.

Corrective actions could be any of the following:
\015\012

try the WD in another PC;
try another external device that uses the USB port to determine if the said PC's USB port is still functional;
perform a System restore;
un-install the offending USB update;
re-install the relevant My Book drivers/files. Pls start here;
worst case scenario, you may want to do a recovery, pls reference this page.
