I have a bad virus and need to crash my hard driveand relaod

Hi tuliejudge,

Well, if you do have a virus infection, reformatting your hard drive and reinstalling your operating system from recovery disks is a sure way to remove any infection and regain control of your system again.

There are several steps involved, but you cannot even consider restoring it without first making sure you have the recovery media to use to put your Windows back onto your computer once the drive has been formatted.

If you place those disks into your machine, turn the power off, then start again, you will usually be prompted to "press any key to boot from cd" If not, you will need to enter your bios (usually achieved by pressing esc or del when the computer first turns on) and changing your boot order to boot from your CD/DVD before your HDD (Hard Drive). That way you can use the recovery process, rather than skip it and just start into your infected operating system every time.

Then, once you do start from those disks, a series of options will guide you through the re-installation process. Normally, manufacturer disks offer an easy to use, graphical interface to help you through this process. If not, you will have an older blue screen oem restore which would take a bit more effort to get through.

The important step during the restore to take is to make sure your old data is destroyed (the infected date) to make sure you do not have the same virus problem when you are done.

Look for advanced options if they are offered, or simply choose the 'factory restore', 'original settings', or 'destructive recovery'. It is usually listed as such.

Once the process completes, you may or may not have to reinstall drivers to make all of your computer's parts work again. But that is a completely different process, which if you reach we can help you with as well.

As a second option (if this seems to be very involving or difficult to do) you can always take your system, along with whatever recovery disks you might have, to any Best Buy and ask the Geeksquad. They can perform this and are always happy to help.
There is no virus in existence other then bios viruses that can survive a reformat restore.\015\012
\015\012find your restore disks or call the original manufacturer to obtain the original software. \015\012
\015\012if you do not have a name brand machine. you will need to reformat yourself and re install the OS manually.
