Having problems with your Computer Monitors ?

I have to heat up my CRT

\015 My problem - \015\012\011\011\011\011Relisys TE770-RU 17'' CRT MonitorWhen my monitor was working correctly, I would plug in the monitor, the green power light would come on for a second, then it would turn amber (power down, I believe). Now when I plug the monitor on the power light simply flashes and there is clicking noise, I have to repeatedly turn the monitor on and off at the plug switch to get it to eventually come on properly. I noticed this was worse in cold weather or in the morning when it was cold. I tried an experiment, I placed a fan heater a couple of feet away from the monitor and switched it on for 15-20 minutes then turned the monitor on, It came on as normal. I've tried this a few times now, even in the morning and it comes on as normal. So when I warm my monitor up in this way it works as normal.I was wondering if anyone had any ideas what the problem might be.thanks,mike\015

Answers :

It is a weak cathode heater inside the CRT. One fix, besides what you are doing, is to replace the glass tube (crt) inside the monitor. Unless you can find a used one, may be hard to find now. It may also be possible to supply the heater filament with a separate supply. I believe this requires a 6 volt supply, so try adding a 10 volt (FUSED- 2 amp) supply to the filament only.
