Having problems with your Computer Monitors ?

Getting 4:3 aspect ratio

\015 I have a Samsung SyncMaster 2032 NW. My PC is a Dell Optiplex 8300, using Pentium 4 chip and Windows XP, SP2. \015\012\015\012All my monitor will show is 16:9, so everything is stretched and squashed. I have downloaded a driver from Samsung, but no change. All I want is to be able to look at the Desktop, images and applications in their native 4:3 aspect ratio, with the black bars on either side of the image.\015\012\015\012Have you any suggestions?\015\012\015\012Rich B\015

Answers :

Right click on the screen go to properties then setting change the screen resolution to 1,024x768 pixels you will get an aspect ratio of 4:3-you'll see black bands at the top and bottom of the screen. This may be acceptable for many applications, when working with graphics, it may be difficult to evaluate the image. To restore order, switch the full-screen option off before doing any serious graphics work.
The scaller circuitry in LCD monitors are not designed to display anything in 4:3 like a 16:9 TV will do, they are designed to fill the entire width of the screen. If you select a widescreen resolution in your display properties then your pixels will be square and images will not look stretched. The optimal resolution for your screen is 1680X1050. If you find that too stretched then you can pick something like 1280X768 but the image quality will not be optimal.
\015\012There is a chance that the video card in your Dimension 8300 is not compatible with widescreen resolutions. Determine the type by looking under graphics adapters in device manager then update the driver from Dell's website if you don't get any widescreen resolution in display properties.
\015\012If any of this sounds like giberish to you then just get me the type of video card in your system and I can help you determine if you are capable of widescreen.
\015\012If by chance your computer cannot display widescreen then I can point you to which video card upgrade would work.
