Having problems with your ViewSonic P225f (Beige) 22" CRT Monitor ?

Viewsonic P225f CRT - clicking "short circuit" sound, shrinks and expands

\015 WARNING: This is a fairly obscure problem.I have a Viewsonic P225f CRT monitor, the 22" version. The model number is VCDTS22074-1M. The manufacture date was April 2002. Conditions: The monitor is on. At any resolution, and any vertical refresh rate, this problem is\015\012currently present. It is somewhat sporadic, that is, the monitor can\015\012go for a while without having this happen to it. Through my own research, it may be caused by "dirty" electricity(I am currently renting in a very old house).Possible Related Problem: http://sci.tech-archive.net/Archive/sci.electronics.repair/2005-09/msg01772.htmlProblem: Basically, when the monitor is on, I hear a distinct "sparking" or "short-circuiting" sound. The CRT continually turns/clicks and shrinks and expands at a very irregular, almost random, rate. It does it even when turning on or off, now, as well. Sometimes it displays a clean, perfect picture for 10 minutes before doing it once or twice, and then it doesn't happen again for 20 minutes. Other times, like right now, it keeps clicking every second or two.It is very possible that this is due to dust build-up in within the monitor itself, as I purchased this from a man who stored it in his garage for some time. I will try the air compressor and edit this post to see if that fixes my problem. If you have further knowledge about CRT tech in general, you might know what is going on here. Please fill me in! Thank you.\015

Just on a whim I'd say open er up and dust it out , and look for bad solder joints.
\015\012
\015\012That means get out your soldering gun and have a look around the board.
\015\012
\015\012what you described is "intermitant failure" sparking sounds , that prety much indicates a bad solder joint some place , not dirty power , if you suspect dirty power , you can buy a little UPS voltage regulator 6 outlet , those little things can really do the trick when it comes to dirty power because
\015\012they can regulate the voltage ALMOST like a full blown UPS backup unit without the battery.
\015\012
\015\012You sound like a smart person who understands power has to be clean , and you seem to understand that intermitant failure is like performing a ( shock test ) where you actually tap on the
\015\012device to see if something is loose.
\015\012
\015\012if something IS loose thats like saying open circuit , so that means get in there and have a look for a bad solder joint , I'll bet dollars to donuts it's a bad solder joint at the plug of the monitor , thats because thats where the point of contact is with the power cable , and we tend to wiggle the power cables on our monitors which causes arcing and sparking , if you get my meaning.
\015\012
\015\012I have every confidence you can trouble shoot this problem with just the simple things I've told you.
\015\012
\015\012Go get em tiger.
