How do I wire up a Targus AC70 to charge my HP NX7400 Laptop?

\015 My genuine HP laptop charger (18.5 V DC) stopped working. I had a spare Targus AC70 universal charger (14 to 20 V DC) but no plug adapter for the HP NX7400, so I cut the low voltage plug lead off the HP charger and tried to connect it up to the AC70. Can anybody help with making the correct connections? \015\012\015\012Here is some further info:\015\012\015\012The Targus low voltage lead has 3 cores and a screen. Between the screen and the thick red core I measure 14 V DC on it (unloaded), the thinner brown core has zero V DC, the thinner violet core has 2.5 V DC. With 2 Amps load on the red core there is no change in voltage. If I connect the violet core to the red core the Targus unit switches off.\015\012\015\012The HP NX 7400 laptop plug has a centre "sensing" pin. If I hook up the laptop to my benchtop power supply at 18.5 V DC and connect a 390k resistor between the sensing pin and the 18.5 V DC supply, it charges and operates happily. If I disconnect the 390k resistor, it stops charging.\015
