I had a similar problem with my Compaq EVO N610C Touchpad.

\015\012The latest driver form HP did not solve the problem.

\015\012I went to Synaptic's website and downloaed and installed their latest generic driver, no more problems!

There should be a button/switch on the front or near the touchpad it self to disable it when not in use.

Or check control panel>mouse for additional touchpad settings
