Having problems with your Toshiba Satellite A105 Notebook ?

Trying to start from scratch

\015 My Satellite was giving me all kinds of problems so I decided to reformat, although I quite certain \302\240I did something wrong. \302\240 I pulled the hard drive form the pc and connected it to my desktop pc to reformat the drive. \302\240Upon reinstallation of Satellite harddrive I have had no success getting even into the bios menu. \302\240At first I was gettng \302\240this error mssg: \302\240 NTDLR missing \302\240 \302\240 ,my search instructed me to add certain files via usb or cd-rom boot. \302\240 This also with no success. \302\240I then tried to paste those files to drive via connection to my desktop. \302\240I now get \302\240 \302\240...missing or corrupt: \302\240\\system32\\hal.dll. \302\240 \302\240 Please help!\015

Hi\015\012Use the following steps to open a command prompt environment and also make sure tht the OS disk is in the drive:\015\012\015\012

  1. \015\012Turn on the PC and press the F8 key repeatedly when the first screen appears. \015\012The Windows advanced options menu appears. \015\012
  2. \015\012Use the Up and Down Arrow and Enter keys to select Return to OS choices . \015\012
  3. \015\012Select Microsoft Windows Recovery Console .
  4. \015\012\015\012
  5. \015\012When the login prompt appears, press the number next to the windows version (minint or Windows) and type the logon password. Try pressing Enter if you do not know the password.\015\012
  6. \015\012At the command prompt, type the following: diskpart \015\012
  7. \015\012Press Enter , do one the following: \015\012
      \015\012
    • \015\012If a table of volume names appears, remember the drive letter next to the main drive volume name and press the Esc key. \015\012
    • \015\012If a diskpart prompt appears, type list volume , press Enter , remember the drive letter next to the main drive volume name , type exit when done, and then press Enter
  8. \015\012Use the following steps to replace the boot.ini file with the backup boot.ini file:\015\012\015\012

    1. \015\012Type the following at the command prompt: X: (where X is the drive letter). \015\012
    2. \015\012At the prompt, type the following: ren boot.ini boot.in2 \015\012
    3. \015\012Press Enter \015\012

    5. \015\012Press Enter \015\012
    6. At the prompt, type the following: exit \015\012
    7. \015\012Press Enter \015\012The system automatically restarts. If Windows XP does not open, continue to the next Step.
