Toshiba Sattelite M45-S165 Power button or ? failure

\015 Without AC Adapter, No response at all from pressing the power button. With AC Adapter (that is functional) the monitor led furthest to the right (AC Adapter) turns green and the led third from the right (battery monitor) turns amber -- (indicating the battery is charging?). This light eventually turns green (indicating a charged battery?). When I press the power button down, nothing happens. When I release it the green led under the power button turns on as well as the monitor led second to the left. There is no response from the disks or the display. When I disconnect the AC Adapter the green led under the power button stay's on as well as the monitor led second from the left. These lights will stay on until the battery is removed or is drained.Could it be that the power is not getting to the motherboard because of a failure in the power switch interface to the motherboard? \015

Answers :

You seem to have hit the nail on the head. Yes, the power on button seems to have gone. That is why nothing happens when you press this button. The lights coming on meas that the charger is doing its work and the switch is not. Please get the power on button changed if you cant do it yourself. And since the lights stay on for a long time, means that the battery is so far OK.\015\012
\015\012However, if there is anything wrong (I hope not) with the motherboard can be ascertained only after the power reaches the motherboard. Most likely nothing is wrong with it but still it has to be ascertained.
The manual suggests that power-up sequence is to hold the POWER button for several seconds until the LED turns blue.

It is worrying that there is no disk activity you can detect, though it occurs to me that the unit may be trying to display to an external device rather than the lcd, so I would try hooking it up to an external display or changing the display settings to see if you can't get some visual error response.

The manual also states that the battery indicator LED will glow amber when charging and blue when fully charged.

I suggest that the unit is trying to display to an external display, or the lcd is damaged. Do try an external display if you have one available.

Otherwise servicing does seem to be a possibility. If the above didn't fix your problem contact the Toshiba Global Support Centre from within the US at 800-457-7777 to find an authorized service center.

I hope that helps.
