Toshiba Satellite Laptop Power Failure (A105-S1013 System Unit)

\015 I own a laptop computer, Toshiba Satellite A105-S1013 System Unit. I experienced a complete power failure while watching a DVD movie around 1 hour into the movie. My laptop was plugged into the AC adapter at the time because the battery was holding a charge for less than 30 minutes. My laptop is almost 2 years old so I assumed that the battery was just almost worn out. It was only while reading forum posts in an effort to determine the potential cause of my current power failure that I realized a BIOS upgrade is available on the Toshiba website that may have potentially fixed the battery problem. Could that have something to do with the power failure? Anyway, I am sure that my AC adapter is working properly because I took it to the shop and they tested it. I read that some Toshiba Satellites have had problems with the power connectors losing their contact with the motherboard (MB) via worn solder connections. I took my laptop apart to see if this might be the problem. The power connector on my laptop is fitted in a slot on the back of the laptop case and connected to the MB via a small power cord that is plugged into the MB. Upon a visual inspection this connection seemed okay. I did not disconnect it to examine it further. Should I disconnect it and clean the contacts and try reconnecting it? Should I then solder it? Should I purchase a new power connector and try replacing the original one? When the laptop is plugged into the AC adapter no power indicator lights come on. I have tried this with the battery in and with the battery removed. As suggested in a previous post, I have also removed the battery and disconnected the laptop from the AC adapter, pressed the power button for 20 seconds, plugged the laptop back in to the AC adapter and then tried to turn it on again \342\200\223 with no result and still no power indicator light coming on. Could my problem be a RAM chip that has gone bad? Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated before I must resort to taking the laptop to a repair shop.\015\012 \015\012Respectfully submitted,\015\012 MaxThis relates to A100-756 Sattelite, just suddenly died and when AC connected the battery amber light flashes 11 times and that it, no power, no noise just battery amber light. Remove the AC Adaptor and nothing - No amber light - so please can you advise what I should do, warranty has expired, bought this 17 months ago and Toshiba technical support want to colect from my work address and claim they will find the problem, quote me and fix if acceptable but I am not sure if this is the best thing or should I give to a local Lap top guy who can fix?\015

How handy are you with a digital multimeter? If the laptop is still disassembled, find the solder connections on the motherboard where the mini power cable enters the board from the jack. Plug the AC adapter in. Check to make sure you have the proper DC voltage at those points (should be about 19V, although the AC adapter should say what it's DC output is).

If you don't get any DC voltage (or too low), check the DC plug of the AC adapter. The inside of the plug should be + and the outside should be -. If you are getting voltage there, but not the motherboard, chances are it's the jack or the mini power cable on the motherboard. These can be replaced, it just depends on how confident you are about doing it yourself :).
