Having problems with your Sony VAIO VGN-B100B Notebook ?

When I try to turn the laptop on, it comes on for approx 1 second and turns off. The indicator lights flash and you hear a noise from the cdrom. No display on the screen, no beeps. It does this when plugged in to the power supply with the battery in, with the battery out, and just running on the battery. I have tested the power supply and it is supplying power and the power is getting to the motherboard.

It looks like it's one of the following: a) fan not running and CPU overheating; b) video card fried; c) CPU fried
\015\012Possible solutions:
\015\012a) Check to see if you can hear the fan running when you turn it on. It should run all the time, sometimes fast, sometimes slow, but ALWAYS on. Check if the laptop has too much dust inside it and clean it up (remove the bottom cover and blow air using a compressed air can). If the fan runs ok and is always running, then go to the next point
\015\012b) if the video card is fried, there is nothing you can do. Video cards in laptops are usually part of the motherboard and is not something that can be replaced or repaired. You'll need a new montherboard... and it is more convenient to replace the whole laptop. Sell your old one for parts.
\015\012c) Same as above. If the CPU is fried, it can't be replaced or repaired. Get a new laptop.

I have Dell Inspiron 1521 that is 2 years old (although it has only been used about 8 months total). I got an error about it not recognizing my ac adapter (the original ac adapter from Dell that it came with) & the battery wouldn't charge. Now the battery is dead. When I power the laptop up, the battery icon flashes red and I get the low battery warning.
