Monitor in out of resolution mode

\015 We bought a samsung 19" monitor in december 2008. it was working fine until this week. after turning the computer on, the screen came up black except for the box saying "out of resolutiopn mode 1440 x 900. i have talked to samsung technicians and one from dell and no one gives me the same answer. the resolution on our computer is 1428 x 768. i cannot change the resolution. that is as high as it will go. the samsung technician says the monitor will not come up until the resolution question is solved. but why did it work at the 1428 x 768 resolution for 3 months if the 1440 x 900 is required. one person said the monitor was defective and another said we needed to get a new video card. what do you think?\015
