Go to Start button, then Control Panel. In the control panel, click Classic View on the left, open up Internet Options and click the Programs Tab on the top of the Internet Options Box that opens up.Then click the Manage Add-Ons button. Beside the word "Show:", check under each option from the dropdown menu (Add-ons that have been used, Add-ons currently loaded, etc) and in the box below the Show menu, left click to highlight anything that says AVG, then click the round button near the botton to Disable that add-on. Also check your Control Panel > Programs And Features for anything that mentions an AVG Toolbar as it was possibly separately installed and has it's own Uninstall Listing in the Programs and Features. If those don't help, you can try this:You can try to download and install the Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301 \015\012 ryMS, thanks for the heads up. \015\012I was able to disable AVG via the "manage add on buttons", so the pop ups have gone. I am still unable to download and open any file or uninstall AVG ( I still get the same message as I mentioned at the begining of this post).\015\012With WIndows defender down due to a conflict with an partly uninstalled program ( dont know which one ) I have have no protection.\015\012 \015\012Any bodyelse have any sugestions????\015\012 \015\012All answers gratefully recieved.\015\012 \015\012Thanks.\015
You need to run a Boot-Scan. Unfortunately, AVG does not have a Boot-Scan choice. However, if you download AVAST and set up a Boot-Scan, it will find the Virus/Mal-ware that you are no doubt experiencing that is causing all of this to happen. It will take up to 2 1/2 hours to run this DOS bases Boot Scan the next time you reboot, it will automatically do the Boot Scan. Do NOT stop the Boot Scan, let it finish. It is automatic, so walk away and when you see that the windows has loaded, you done. I also use a wonderful fix-it program called "Advanced System Care", by (www.iobit.com), which has in the "Tools" tab an uninstaller, which gets rid of pesky programs and uninstalls them as well as all entries and files both in the registry and on the hard drive. The paid version called Pro is the best vs the free version because it fixes a lot more problems.
Try using this uninstaller it works great Cleanse Uninstaller Pro
