Hello,

This problem is usually caused by a bad power supply in the monitor. If you can solder you should be able to do the repair. Check our web site at: www.ccl-la.com/badcaps.htm Now open the back of the monitor and look for parts that look like the pictures. Unsolder the bad ones and replace them and your should be good to go again. The values you need to use will be marked on the sides of the bad ones. Be sure to use a low ESR and high temp replacement, not like you would ge from Radio Shack. The parts can be ordered from several places on the internet or we can supply them for you. Be sure to reinsert the new parts with the polarity stripe on the side going the same direction as the old ones come out. If you have any additional questions let let me know. If you don't want to do the repair yourself we do offer a repair service for $35 + return shipping.

I hope this helps, if so please rate our solution.

Xtremenet, Most likely the problem is related to the backlight power supply which is called an "inverter" supply. It takes 12 volts dc and turns it into 800 to 1200 volts ac to light up the cold cathode fluorescent tubes that are hung horizontaly on the rear of LCD panel. Do this test!!!! Boot up the PC. Make sure you have a perfect win-desktop showing!!! Then and only then connect your bad monitor to the PC. After you push the "ON" button watch the screen. Make note of how long the screen is on. Is it on for .5 sec? or 1 sec, or 1.5sec? After screen goes to black then shine a bright flashlight 1 to 2 inches from the screen. Can you see the win desktop "START" button on the lower left corner of screen. If yes is your answer, you have a bad inverter or a bad switch-mode-power-supply. You did not state how old this lcd monitor is. Get back to me with results of the test. louie12fix on fixya or lmistyrel @aol.com Bye for now.
