Noise coming from speaker with controls

\015 Here's my problem. I've had these speakers for years and have not had a problem with them till recently. The speakers were not in use for about 1 month and while they were not being used they were turned off. I attempted using the speakers last night when I discovered a very loud/annoying sound coming from the right speaker only (the speaker with the controls). The sound almost sounds like the waves of the ocean but it's very loud. Any suggestions on getting this noise/sound to dissolve?\015
