Having problems with your IBM ThinkPad T40 2373 Notebook ?

My laptop is making a loud noise

\015 I have an IBM thinkpad T40, works great, but has recently begun to make a large whirring sound at start up and then again after short term use. It does not shut down, nor act improperly.\015

Answers :

Hi again.
It sounds to me that the PC is overheating, get a can of compressed air and give short blasts through the air vents and the CPU fan (located underneath the laptop) once your happy that all the dust has been blown out restart the PC and it should be quieter from then on.

Good luck and thanks for using FixYa!!
Ok sound like to me, a cd has been left in the laptop. check the cd drive, take out the cd. reboot the system and see if it continues. If you leave a CD in the drive, when the laptop is boot it will spin up the CDROM looking for any type of boot setup, as if installing windows or something. comment back with the results.
