Ibm thinkpad will shut down after running fine

\015 My ibm think pad will run for a while then either lock up OR just shut down after running for a little while! it is not connected to the net is this possibly an internal timer issue or a possible power problem? I have been plugging it in & not useing the battery!\015

Its a silly question but are the vents on the sides and underside of the laptop unobstructed. ie dont use it on a bed or any non flat surface. Try this and see if your problem ceases
