IBM T30 laptop- replacing CMOS battery

\015 I just bought a replacement (non-IBM) CMOS battery and installed it in my laptop; it didn't appear to change the boot sequence (currently boots to setup screen where it asks the current date/time). I pulled the new one and noticed that the leads for the new and old batteries are reversed polarity (at least the colors are reversed). The guy I bought it from says this isn't a problem. Everything I know about electricity says black is negative and red is positive, so seems to me it would make a difference if the battery is installed with reverse polarity. Anyone know if these off-brand CMOS batteries have leads that colors/polarities are switched? Thanks\015

Answers :

Provided the laptop booted (albeit to requiring bios set up), all is well. The data such as time needs to be re-entered manually, because since the battery is required to maintain volatile memory, when the battery goes flat or is removed, the data is lost. Re-enter all data, including boot sequence (i.e. IDE 0, CD-ROM/DVD)! exit saving to CMOS. should reboot to OS.
Try to see the battery, there is a flat suface. The flat surface is + and the reverse is -, Yes the vendor is correct the black is negative, and red is + , However did the original battery is lying down to the mainboard , exactly the flat surface (+) is visible(100%)
