Having problems with your IBM Lenovo ThinkPad T60 ?

I am trying to get an IBM T42 laptop up and running. I started it up with the rescue and recovery CD in the drive. It showed the bars on the bottom of the screen and seemed to complete the process but then I got a blue screen (I did not write down the exact error message, but it had something to do with an error in windows and was shutting down to avoid damage to the machine). On restarting, it gets through the memory check just fine and then tells me a bunch of stuff, the last line of which

Hello, Diver.

I'd suggest doing a hardware diagnostic check, especially if you experienced errors in the past that may be hardware-related.

Regarding your operating system, if you have Vista, give this a try:

you can rebuild the BCD store by using the Bootrec.exe tool in the Windows Recovery Environment. To do this, follow these steps:
1. Put the Windows Vista installation disc in the disc drive, and then start the computer.
2. Press a key when you are prompted.
3. Select a language, a time, a currency, and a keyboard or another input method, and then click Next.
4. Click Repair your computer.
5. Click the operating system that you want to repair, and then click Next.
6. In the System Recovery Options dialog box, click Command Prompt.
7. Type Bootrec /RebuildBcd , and then press ENTER.
• If the Bootrec.exe tool runs successfully, it presents you with an installation path of a Windows directory. To add the entry to the BCD store, type Yes . A confirmation message appears that indicates the entry was added successfully.
• If the Bootrec.exe tool cannot locate any missing Windows installations, you must remove the BCD store, and then you must re-create it. To do this, type the following commands in the order in which they are presented. Press ENTER after each command.
Bcdedit /export C:\\BCD_Backup
ren c:\\boot\\bcd bcd.old
Bootrec /rebuildbcd
8. Restart the computer

If you have Windows XP, you could try a repair of xp.

How to go about Repairing Windows XP
1. Put your Windows XP Install CD into your CD-ROM drive.
2. Reboot your computer.
3. Let your system boot off of the CD.
4. Let the Setup go through the first part of the Installation procedure.
5. When you come to the screen in which it says "Welcome to Setup." press Enter to Setup Windows XP.
6. Press F8 to agree to the End User License.
7. Let the Setup search your system for previous versions of Windows.
8. When the Setup is finished searching your system, select your Windows XP Installation and press the R key on your keyboard to start the Repair Procedure.

The Setup will delete all major system files and then replace them with new copies.

You will have to download all of the updates from Microsoft Windows Update again because it replaces the files.

Hope this helps
