Having problems with your HP Pavilion dv8140us (EP407UA) PC Notebook ?

Answers :

From HP Support, and me, (I'm looking at the Service Manual for the HP Pavilion dv8140us right now)

(Laptop facing you in normal position, laptop is closed. AC adapter removed if being used. (Charger)

Work on a table, lay a lint free soft cloth down. Turn the laptop over, lay it on it's top cover.
The back of the laptop is facing you now. The hinges are towards you.

1.Remove the battery.
\015\012Slide, and hold the battery release latch to the release position.
\015\0122.Lift the Front edge of the battery, and lift it out of the battery bay.

There is a large Panel, or compartment cover, on the side of the laptop facing you. This is the Battery Compartment Cover, for the Battery Bay.

Right above it, on the right side is a Slide button, or Battery Release Latch. Slide it to the right, hold it there.
List the panel edge of this cover, that is away from you, swing it up to remove it. Set the Battery aside.

On the opposite side of the laptop is the Harddrive Compartment Cover. Has three Philips head screws along the edge.

Use a Small Philips head screwdriver, (+), to remove them. The size of the Philips head screws are P1. Use a P1 Philips head screwdriver. (Small)

DO NOT, under ANY circumstances, use a Magnetic screwdriver!!

These three screws are on the panel's EDGE facing away from you . One in each corner, and one in the middle. Remove them with a Small Philips head screwdriver. (+)

They may not all come out all the way. One or two may just come up so far. It's okay. I advise do not turn the laptop over to remove them. They could bounce off the table, and join other mysterious objects that seem to just disappear!

Lift the panel edge of this compartment cover, that has the screws in it. The edge that Faces you. Lay this cover aside.

When you look down in there, you are looking at the Harddrive. There are Two Philips head screws on one edge. Remove these. You may have to carefully use a pair of tweezers, to grab them out of there. Do Not drop them.

Now slide the harddrive out of the connector. It slides towards the side that had the screws.

BE VERY CAREFUL at this point! You can easily bend the small metal pins! Even if the harddrive you're removing isn't any good, the connector in the laptop is.

Slide the harddrive back as far as you can out of the connector. Lift the back, (Where the screws were), up to a 45 degree angle, then keep sliding the harddrive out.

To install, tilt the harddrive at a 45 degree angle when installing also. Be SURE it lines up with those pins. You bend them, and you'll be very angry.

If you need more assistance, I'm right here.
