Having problems with your HP Pavilion DV3Z PC Notebook ?

HP Pavilion dv 3 not booting up. The screen says "no bootable device. Insert boot disk and press any key."The operating system is Windows Vista. I've only had the computer for one month. I purchased it as Sam's Club fully loaded with operating system and software. No disks came with it. Once in a while when I turn it on it actually goes to the start menu. I've tried hitting the ESC key when it attempts to boot and none of the F keys work. Is the computer crashing or can it be fixed?

1. "no bootable device" indicates:
\015\012* no bootable diskette in the A: drive (if you have a 3.5" diskette drive)
\015\012* no bootable CD in your CD-drive
\015\012* hard-drive is either:
\015\012** not connected (power and/or data cables) to the motherboard
\015\012** unreadable, i.e., it is "dying"
\015\012
\015\0122. If/when it does "start", backup your files, i.e., burn CD/DVD disks, ASAP, and take those disks to another computer, to ensure that you can read them correctly. Then delete your files from the disk-drive.
\015\012
\015\0123. "one month" old implies that it's under warranty.
\015\012So, take it back (now that you have removed all "personal" files),
\015\012and exercise the warranty. They probably will just replace the disk-drive, and re-install Vista. Of course, they will *NOT* load your personal files from your backup -- you will have to do that.
\015\012
\015\0124. When you get it back, there _should_ be a HP Utility, preloaded on the new disk-drive, that burns a set of "System Recovery" disks, onto 3 to 8 CDs, or onto 2 or 3 DVD disks. RUN THIS UTILITY.
It sounds like the computer may be trying to boot of of a CD or USB drive. Make sure no discs are in the drive and that nothing other than the AC cable is plugged in when you turn it on.

If that doesn't fix it, it's probably a problem with your Hard Drive and/or the BIOS. In either case, the best thing to do is to send it in to HP to be fixed, as there is a 1 year manufacturers warranty.
