Fan really loud, probably full of dust. how to take the case off?

\015 I need help dis-assembling the case. The fan sounds like a jet engine and its really annoying, probably full of dust.. How do I take it apart and clean it?\015

Answers :

You will need to open the case by removing the screws or thumbscrews on the back, should be anywhere from 1 to 4. Make sure you disconnect the power and discharge any static charge by pressing the power button after plug is disconnected. Once the screws are removed slide the case side panel off, or open like a **** depending on case design. Once opened you should be able to see the heatsink/fan assembly sitting on top of the cpu. You should not need to disassemble it to clean it. Just spray it out thoroughly with a can of compressed air. Once clean put the case back together and reconnect power. If the noise still persists then it could be that a bearing has burned out on the fan and it will need replaced. You can buy a fan fairly cheap to replace. Hope this helps you out.

My Dell Dimension E510 is making a "whirring" noise. It whirls loudly when I turn it on, like something inside is struggling to get up to speed. The computer takes more time than usual to become operable and open programs. Then with the computer on, the "whirring" comes and goes, it is more quite, but more uneven.
