Having problems with your HP Pavilion dv1000 Notebook ?

I need to replace the cooling fan in my HP dv1530US laptop. Which panel(s) do I remove to access the fan?

Answers :

Let me give you the HP Support link, to download the Maintenance and Service Guide. (It's really a Service Manual instead of the implied 'Guide')

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/manualCategory?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&product=1818461&

Click right on -
HP Pavilion dv1400 Entertainment Notebook PC, HP Compaq nx4820 Notebook PC, Compaq Presario V2400 Notebook PC, - Maintenance and Service Guide

(The top one in the gray)

You may not see anything happening for up to 30 seconds after you click on it. Be patient as it is downloading. (Took 34 seconds for me just now)

This is a PDF file, and your computer has Adobe Reader on it, which uses PDF files.

To save a copy to your computer go up to the top heading, and click on the Floppy Disk icon. This is the second icon from the left.
Hovering your mouse cursor over it will briefly reveal,
"Click to save this to your computer or another location"

In the Save a copy... , you will see File name:
In the box to the right of File name: , will be c00636251.pdf

Unless you feel like searching for c00636251.pdf all of the time, I suggest this;

Put your mouse cursor right after the f, in .pdf
Left-click Twice. Make one space with your spacebar.
Now type Pavilion dv1530us Service Manual

Much easier to find.
You can burn this file to CD disk, and delete it off of your computer for more harddrive space, if you wish.

Wanted you to have this manual, so I can explain the procedures better.

1.Remove the AC adapter if plugged in. Remove the Battery.

2.Buy and wear an ESD Wrist S-trap if you do not already have one. (S-trap is a censored word, hence the spelling)
An Esd Wrist S-trap is inexpensive. Around $6 US.
Example,

http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2103245&cp=&sr=1&kw=anti-static+wrist+strap&origkw=anti-static+wrist+strap&parentPage=search

The wrist s-trap has a piece of exposed metal that contacts the skin of your wrist. There is a cord attached to the wrist s-trap, and at the end of the cord is an Alligator clip. The clip is attached to a good ground source.

I connect the alligator clip, to the metal frame of an empty desktop computer case.

Your body carries Static electricity. Wearing an ESD wrist s-trap, helps to ensure that Static is not prevalent, from reaching the computer you're working on.
Static will fry out the delicate computer components in your laptop, in a Split-Second!! You may not even see it or feel it!
This is why it is Imperative to wear a device like this.
(ESD. Electro Static Discharge)

3.I suggest a container that has several compartments in it, for the various screws you will remove. There are 62 screws used in the Pavilion dv1530us laptop, and 8 different sizes.
You Don't want to get these mixed up!

Some screws look Very close to other screws, but the threads are different, and also maybe slightly larger.
You can even use a clean egg carton, and label each egg holder in a pinch!

You may also want to make notes as you go along, and perhaps use a digital camera for reference, when you go to reassemble.

4.In the Service Manual go to the left side, and click on the + sign next to Removal and Replacement Procedures.
Now go down, and click right on 5.19 Fan

You have to prepare the computer for disassembly.
(Section 5.3)
You have already done this by removing the AC adapter if plugged in, and the Battery.
Also you are aware of Anti-Static Precautions, and are wearing an ESD Wrist S-trap.

{Have to advise at this point, that you need to work on a table. A couch, bed, or Directly on a carpet floor, is a No-No! These are High areas of Static!
If your floor where your table sits has carpet under it, refrain from swinging your feet back, and forth on the carpet}

You have to remove the ,

A.Optical Drive, (CD/DVD Drive)
B.Switch Cover, (Under the LCD screen)
C.Keyboard
D.Display Assembly, (LCD Screen)
E.Base Enclosure, (Bottom cover of the laptop)
F.Heat Sink, (Rests on the Processor)

Each removal procedure is covered. Just click on the Chapter number given, to remove that component.
