Monitor reads: PC entering power saving mode then shuts off;PC on

\015 Monitor reads: PC entering power saving mode then shuts off Pc still running (HP pavillian 2700 ghz 1gig ram). It started out by the cpu saying, Fatal Error, I think, then it said Power Surge. Then everything froze. I shut off cpu then started it up and monitor says pc entering... I used a old Emachines cpu that has windows 98 and I plugged it into the HP monitor and the monitor was working good; so I know the cpu is the problem. I unplugged the Ram Cards I have 2 512 mb cards. I took out the battery then reboot nothing. The fan is running but the cpu sounds like its in a higher gear than usual. Can I transfer files if I get a USB plug to connect it to another cpu then plug in my flashdrive 8 gig and transfer my pictures, music and programs to the flashdrive? Or do I have to take out the hard drive and put it inside the Emachines CPU but then I'll have to take the hard drive out of it too. Sounds like alot of work. Has anyone had this problem and found a solution besides sending it too the GEEK SQUAD or a local cpu tech who will probably copy all your files and programs? Or maybe put some spyware in the cpu. How long will this take to fix? My problem is I don't trust anyone I wanna see what they're doing. Can u help I would really appreciate it. Thanks. :o)\015

First do not take the hard drive out and put it in another computer. It is configured to run in the computer it's in.
\015\012Next, you probably did have a power surge either from your power supply or the power in your home. It sounds now like your power supply is damaged.
\015\012The processor does not have any gears; the sound you hear is most likely the fan in the power supply running too high.
\015\012Taking the battery out does nothing unless you move the jumper on the rtc to clear the CMOS. You should do that. You will have to get the computer running before you can transfer via USB to a flashdrive.
\015\012Unless you know what you are doing, you can ruin your computer just by touching components or the motherboard. You need to ground yourself first and make sure the computer is unplugged from the wall.
\015\012Here is what I recommend:
\015\0121. Get a grounding strap and hook it to your wrist and something to ground it. The package will tell you how.
\015\0122. Open the computer case and move the jumper to the proper location to drain the CMOS. (There will be 3 pins, and it will be on two of them. To ground it move the jumper to the uncovered pin and the one next to it. Leave it there a minute then remove it and out it back on the other two.
\015\0123. Be certain the two sticks of ram are properly inserted all the way in the slots; do not use brute strength.Leave the side cover off, and plug the Computer back in again. You should see a light come on after a few seconds. You should also see the power supply fan on.
\015\0124. Turn on your monitor and then boot your computer. If it comes to a screen that says it stopped abnormally, choose the last known good configuration.
\015\0125. you don't get that far you have worse problems, namely the motherboard or the powersupply. If it boots you should also hear the hard drive whirring.
\015\012If you can't get it going let us know. But one thing I'd like to convey to you. There is nothing in your conputer any reputable technician in a good shop will want. Neither will he put malware on your system.
\015\012Good luck!
