It sounds like you may have a bad connection. Best thing to do here is plug the monitor into a known working computer and see if it repeats. If it does you may want to replace your VGA cable to the monitor. If it doesn't your video card could be suspect or just simply your monitor is burning out. I'd try plugging the monitor into a good computer first. More than likely it is either a bad VGA cable or a bad video graphics card.
