Having problems with your HP Media Center PC 873n (P9875A#ABA) PC Desktop ?

Volume Control stopped working

\015 I really messed up my computer's sound capability. Somehow, the volume control icon stopped showing up in the taskbar. I have an HP873n Media Center PC (before 2005). When I go into Control Panel the sound choices for volume control are greyed out. Please review the newsgroup posts that outline the lack of progress so far:\015\012Thank you for your two posts. I did get the information from the system:\015\012Name: Creative Audigy Audio Processor (WDM)\015\012Mfg: Creative Technologies, Ltd.\015\012Status: Error\015\012Device ID: PCI\\\\/EN_1102&DEV_0004&SUBSYS_005B1102&REV_03\\4&11C9F252&0&00F0\015\012\015\012However, this driver was not on the system before I messed it up. The \015\012driver was something like SB Audigy. This was the one that I overlayed when \015\012I installed the new copy of a sound driver (maybe the wrong one). When I try \015\012to enable this, the system crashes, when I try to uninstall this, the system \015\012crashes. The only way the system works is to disable it. But then I cannot \015\012use sound. I have openned a support call with Creative and I hope they can \015\012help me. My version of MCE is the original one, before 2004 or 2005. So I \015\012do not know what to do?\015\012\015\012Regards,\015\012keffert\015\012\015\012"S.Sengupta" wrote:\015\012\015\012> Alternatively you can see here:-\015\012> \015\012> Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System \015\012> Information>Components>Sound Device.\015\012> \015\012> regards,\015\012> S.Sengupta[MS-MVP]\015\012> \015\012> \015\012> \015\012> S.Sengupta wrote:\015\012> \015\012> > This is entirely a driver related problem. You also did a wrong choice-by \015\012> > selecting safe mode with net working.\015\012> > What driver do you see in device manager?Select the driver and right \015\012> > click on it and select properties.Under the General tab you will find \015\012> > the driver's name.Select Driver tab you will get driver's version \015\012> > also.Hope this helps.\015\012> > \015\012> > regards,\015\012> > S.Sengupta[MS-MVP]\015\012> > \015\012> > \015\012> > keffert wrote:\015\012> > \015\012> >> Hello,\015\012> >>\015\012> >> I openned Device Manager, expanded Sound.
