Having problems with your HP L1706 17" LCD Monitor ?

Need to change resolution but cannot get onto desktop to do so as the monitor just goes to sleep

\015 I have recently reinstalled windows xp on my computer using my friends monitor as my computer had a virus. but now i have plugged the computer back into my HP L1706 LCD monitor and it says (input signal out of range change settings to 1280 x 1024 - 60Hz) the windows logo appears but then it goes to the message above and will not load up my desktop so i cannot chnage the settings. i have pressed reset to factory settings on the monitor but still no luck. i dont have a spare monitor but i have a laptop so will there be anything i can do with that to help?\015

Answers :

Plug it into your laptop and change the settings to the monitor to 800 by 600 pixels, then change the refresh rate to 60 hz or you could change it to 1280 by 1024 pixels and 60hz but it should work with 800 by 600 too, then plug it back into your desktop it should work then
Start up Windows using SAFE MODE. this will default the resolution to 800x600 and it shouldn't matter to the monitor. You should then be able to change the resolution to what you desire. Please be certain you have the latest drivers from inVidia or ATI, whichever applies. Hope it helps.
