Having problems with your HP Compaq dc5000 PC Desktop ?
It's start off good then after Microsoft XP Logo shows it restarts by itself.
Try these tips in the order listed to solve the problem you are experiencing....
- Turn ON your Compaq OR if it is already ON, Reset it by Holding down CTRL+ALT+DELETE simultaneously \015\012
- Once the Compaq logo appears on the screen start tapping the F8 key on the keyboard, you should see a black screen with text, which instructs you to choose various options.... (if you see the Microsoft XP logo, you didn't hit F8 fast enough! Reboot the PC again and hit F8 until you get to this black screen with text on it.) \015\012
- On the black screen with text options, choose the LAST KNOWN GOOD CONFIGURATION option-this tells your Windows XP to try to load the settings that got it to the Desktop since your problem occurred. \015\012
- IF you do get to the desktop using this option, i suggest running a disk check for errors that may fix the problem you are experiencing. To do a disk check open up the RUN command from the START menu, enter the following
" CHKDSK C: /F /X "
which instructs the computer to perform a disk check.
You may see a message that states:
The type of the file system is NTFS.
Cannot lock current drive.
Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another
process. Would you like to schedule this volume to be
checked the next time the system restarts? (Y/N)
That means some of the files of the operating system are missing or corrupted. so the best solution is to run system restore, or running the xp program then choosing on repare.
