Says max ram is 4gb.
DDR II SDRAM, 667 MHz (PC2-5300)

From what your saying in the last sentence I think you are mixing memories, which is a big no no. Stick to only PC2-5300, look for a 2 or 4gb PC2-5300.

Try going with, slot1 = factory's memory, slot2 = your PC2-5300 memory. If this works try switching the memories to find what is the faulty problem, the slot or your memory. Trail and error, just don't use the wrong memory again because that will really mess up your computer.
If you are using the XP or Vista OS, if you are going to install more than 3 GB of Memory then it fails to show up on the computer properties.
\015\012
\015\012Once you install the memory then you may check the BIOS for the memory installed in the system, the BIOS shows the exact amount of memory installed in the system.
\015\012
\015\012You system is capable of 4 GB of RAM.
